I am getting myself ready for Urban Art in Brixton (details in last post) and whilst signing some of my screen prints I decided to start the process and signed JOJ and it felt strangely good so I will start talking to galleries about this. There must be other women out there who know what I am talking about and I would love to hear from you.........

I slowly reverted to using my pre-married name just for business, keeping my married name for domestic purposes. As the children got older, it turned out they didn't even mind what I called myself, so my maiden name is becoming more prominent. Besides, it feels somehow ... natural. There is a bigger picture, though. 'Mrs'. What the blazes is 'Mrs' all about? Why does a bank cashier, or an online shopping site, or an anonymous institution that writes to me need to know my marital status? Men are not identified in that way. It annoys the hell out me. Not only do women give up their names, but they get an additional label. On that note (or rant - call it what you will), I advocate you name yourself by whatever feels right as the ink flows from your pen onto the paper. So, my friend, I comfortably sign off as:
