Dear Mrs. Oakley,
Very recently we bought at the Smelik & Stokking Gallery in The Hague your beautiful painting ‘Lanterns & Honesty’. We like it very much, as we appreciate a lot of your work, and we gave it a prominent place in our home. It has a wonderful, somewhat nostalgic atmosphere, beautiful colours, simplicity and familiarity in one picture. We have one question remaining: the title of the painting. We tried hard to find any clue but didn’t succeed to discover the true meaning of ‘Lanterns & Honesty’. Could you enlighten us about this name?
With kind regards,
Roel Bekker

and your next post will be telling us readers about Lanterns and Honesty, right? hint hint... curious!
I see chinese lantern plant and honesty in the vase,
both drying to a papery state that makes them perfect for a long lasting arrangement. Lovely painting, lucky owners!
Julie you are absolutely right x
